A while back I talked about wanting to create a “rants & opinions” section on my page. I still want to do that, I’ve just been to lazy and too short on attention to actually sit down and write out elaborate explanations for anything. But it’s in the works, as is my hubby’s site and blog, to be called “Vance Rants.” CUTE NAME.
Today I stumbled across an article so steeped in bullshit, I couldn’t stand it. It needs to be addressed, but the problem is I can’t put together everything wrong with this in a blog. That would be like a subject monopoly and you’d miss out on all the cute stories about Deven. I know, this is what you guys come here for. I won’t do that to you.
I know what you’re thinking when you initially read the article. “What, its Abraham Lincoln. A national hero. It makes sense for Obama to address the man who abolished slavery seeing as blah, blah, bla…” My brain can’t even coherently spit out that thought without shutting down. The opening paragraph of this article states “President Barack Obama called on Americans Thursday to follow Abraham Lincoln’s example of showing generosity to political opponents and valuing national unity — above all else.” Yes, show generosity to your opponents, and then chase your dissenters out of the country, or you can just throw them in jail without a trial. Anything to shut them up! Yes, let’s follow that example.
That isn’t even the beginning of the problem with this article or with the history we’ve been taught. It’s disgusting how much we’ve been lied to in the name of Patriotism. Shit like this seriously makes me consider homeschooling my children. For now, I think I will just create pages entirely devoted to these particular issues, starting with “My beef with Abraham Lincoln.” If I had the talent of cohesion, I would combine that with a rant about Patriotism, but I’ll just do that separately.
But what this blog was really meant to be about lighter topics, such as my day to day life as a mom and stuff, and about how Rihanna got beat up by Chris Brown. By the way, let that be a lesson that you should never ever beat up your girlfriend, especially if she’s more famous than you. And that crazy lady who had 8 kid after having 6 kids at home and is on disability and food stamps. *Vomits* I really don’t want to piss anyone off with the content of my blog. Really, I don’t.
Deven is developing as always. He still doesn’t talk, and that’s okay. He has his own methods of communication. He has discovered a lot of fun new games, like help mommy pick up the toys. It’s the greatest milestone my child has ever reached! If I’m going around and picking up his giant lego blocks and throwing them into the plastic bag, he’ll follow me and pick some up and put them into the bag. Of course everytime he does it I cheer and tell him thank you, because I don’t want this to ever go away, and of course after a few minutes of this game he attempts to take the bag from me and dump it out. He is also learning to distinguish shapes, and make tall towers with his blocks and then knock them down.
He is also learning to drive mommy and daddy crazy. He won’t let us use our computer or watch tv without getting in on the action. If we’re using the computer he’ll cry for us to stop and play with him, or he’ll try to steal the mouse and open the disk drives. If we’re intently watching tv or a movie he’ll turn the tv off. And he is smart about it. When we see him heading for the tv we pause the movie, and now he has caught on to this and will stop and leave the tv alone until we start the movie back up. It is making movie watching totally not worth it. We might has devote our evenings entirely to watching Deven dance and play in the living room because thats clearly what he wants.
On the college front, I took the assessment tests and did really well on the reading and English parts of the test and horribly on the math part. The counselor recommended that I take the intermediate remedial math, because my score could have been worse, and I had to disagree. There were, I think, either 4 or 6 questions on that part of the test and I guessed on every single one of them, because I had never even seen these types of questions before in my life. When summer rolls around I’m going to start with the easiest math class there is, because the semester will move faster than usual, and I need all the preparation I can get. My degree plan is long and packed full of a fuck ton of stuff. I can’t expect that I’ll be able to finish everything within 2 years, especially with all of the remedial and prep work I’m going to need to do. Aside from the math, I’m going to need to take a prep course for the human anatomy test that I have to take before I can take the Anatomy course.
I also submitted my FAFSA. Let’s cross our fingers, because without this, I won’t be able to go to school.
Anyway, tonight is Spaghetti night, which was originally supposed to be on Tuesday, but was moved to today this week. Vance does the cooking on Spaghetti night. It’s wonderful.
